Self-concept- is the manner in which an individual describes herself. We can think of self-concept as a more or less objective assessment of who we are, our strengths and weakness, our personality characteristics, and so on. Self-Esteem- refers to one’s sense of personal worth or value. It is distinguished from self-concept, although it is related to it. According to Berk,”By age 7 or 8, children in diverse Western cultures have formed at least four separate self-esteems-academic competence, social competence, physical/athletic competence, and physical appearance. Within them are more refined categories that become increasingly distinct with age” (p. 472).
