week 3 Original post: Sun 2/3/2019 at 8:09 PM

What I find most challenging is staying on task with what I’m trying to observe. When observing the child or children i sometimes will forget when I should take a note. I do find it hard sometimes to take quality notes while still attending the observation. It's easy to write note as short and sweet. I sometimes get side tracked or I see so many things at one time that I get all twisted in what I should write or in other words I can’t seem to find my train or thought to put it on paper. I like to observe group of children rather than them individually. It seems it would be easier. It also seems like you can see more with more kinds then watching just one for the amount of time. I do notice things that I did not before and that’s what is so neat about being able to observe kids.

Hi, Danielle. I also sometimes have trouble staying on task when I am observing. I go into my observations for this class knowing which child(ren) I need to watch and which behaviors I need to look for.  Usually I am able to focus on these specific children. However, sometimes I get distracted by something entertaining another child is doing, and I stop watching my target group. This is disadvantageous because I can miss the behaviors I have been watching for.

I like watching children in groups and watching the individuals; I don’t have a preference. I like watching groups because I get to see how the children interact with each other. I like watching individuals because I get to see their personal likes and dislikes, their habits, their strengths and weaknesses, and their temperament. Observing a child individually helps me get to know them much better.
