I believe it is hugely important for families to feel welcome in the classroom environment because the teachers and parents should be working as a team with the same goal of helping a child to be successful. Since I have become an adult I have noticed many changes of welcoming parents into a classroom setting or if it is even being allowed. The biggest challenge with this issue is the safety of the children and the staff. As public shootings have become more common the restrictions on outside people in a classroom has also increased. I believe it is important to get to know parents as much as you possibly can through outside communication as well as making it very clear that you are there to support both them and their child. Having strong communications between both the parent and the teacher helps the child feel supported as well as hold them more accountable. When you are able to welcome parents into your classroom setting is it very important for be friendly and make they feel welcome. Offer to answer any questions they may have as some parents might not feel comfortable approaching you with their questions on their own.

What a great point you brought up. It is a lot harder to feel welcomed now days since security has to be so tight due to recent events that make out schools buckle down for the safety of students and staff alike. Communication with parents is so important to make the the classroom successful. It is a shame that a lot of times it has to be through email and phone calls because of the safety aspect. I guess as a teacher, you have to get creative to find ways that will make parents feel welcome, when schools have to be so careful about allowing visitors. However, I do think that parents can apprecaite the attempts the schools are making to keep the students safe. Parents that understand the importance of safety will not mind going the extra mile to do what it takes to be involved with their child at school.

I have heard that parents do not feel welcomed in the classroom but its a teachers job to ensure that the parents are being there and feel welcomed. Getting to know a parent and supporting the parent is huge if a parent trust you than that will make your bond with the child stronger grerat points.

I like that you brought up the rising issue of school safety and taking preventative measures such as tight security. However, if we don't start a good parent teacher relationship where communication is there, I worry we a re neglecting our students who need that attention or extra help and guidance. I wonder if the past shootings done by children in their own schools, if those kids teachers had noticed anything different in their moods or actions, even school work, and if those teachers had a good relationship with the childs parents that they could have felt comfortable giving the parents a heads up that their child is acting different in school. Or maybe the parents could respond back to the teacher saying they've noticed the difference in attitude and behavior and will look into it. I know that was a huge run on sentence. But seriously! We could really help our kiddos out if we could have a good communicable relationship with the parents at home to make life easier for our students at home and school! I hope that all made sense.
